Fire drill

The fire fighting squad of Happy Explorers.

Our fire drill was like a fire safety workshop.

The children learned about:

- Stop, drop & roll

- stay low to crawl out if there's too much smoke

- opening padlock blindfolded

- crawl through tunnel

- climbing through obstacle

- basic usage of the fire extinguisher

- where can you see a fire hydrant

- what is the fire hydrant for?

Birds for the bird nest

We have a bird nest but no bird seems interest to rest in our nest.

Never mind, we can make our own birds.

Building bird nest

Ingredients:

plenty of mud,

twigs,

dried grass,

dried leaves

and many happy explorers' hands

Steps taken by the children to make the nest:

1. Mix mud with dried grass

2. Use the mixture as the base

3. Stack twigs around the base. To keep the twigs together....use more muds

4. If it is high enough....lay some dried leaves for the center.

Getting to know fish

Experiencing winter

The children started to wonder how is winter like when we came across igloo in a story book. We talked about winter and snow. All the children have not experience winter before and I can see that there're lots of question marks on their faces. One parent suggested "Why don't we let them experience winter in the SnoWalk of iCity." That was indeed a good idea.

Our journey begins...

As we entered the SnoWalk, there is an igloo right in front of us.

Then, we went for the sledge ride. Wow! that was fun. At the end of the tour, we get to catch the snow with our mouths and hands.

Hui Yi was very responsible..taking care of the young one.

Mirror and reflection

The mirror and reflection was an interesting topic for the children. We begin by placing different objects and many different poses in front of mirrors. The older children recorded the reversed-image reflected on the mirror.

Then, we play the 'Mirror game'; there were laughter all around when the children started doing silly actions.

In the evening, when the sunlight shone into the school, we had fun making disco lights while doing the reflecting light experiment.

We caught a one-horn beetle

It did not move much...so it was a great opportunity for us to learn more about insect.
