This is an interesting museum as it is a project by the children of Stars & Planets Edufun Club in PJ. It was a very good opportunity for us to visit the museum by children for children. It is indeed inspiring especially the wall painting, King Tut's tomb and the pyramid. Walls and pavements made of egg cartons and card boards really create the ancient environment. We felt like we were brought back in time...the butterflies in our tummies & the wow feeling to travel back in time...(take a look at Jolin's fear-looking face...you will understand what I mean). We really appreciate the opportunity to visit and must congratulate Jolene for setting such a good place for children to learn the interesting way.
After learning float and sink; it is pretty easy for them to predict what could sink or float. However, we gave the children a challenge to make things that float sink and things that sink float.
This is the result of some of the items they came up with.
The children have to collect as many leaves as they can. The one with the highest number of leaves is the winner. After collecting the leaves; we observed how the children counted their leaves. Most of them counted one-by-one but two of them decided to arrange the leaves. One of them grouped the leaves in group of tens (clever ler...good idea)
After counting the leaves; one child asked "Why are all the leaves brown?" So, I gave them the challenge to find a green on the ground. They shook the tree and looked for green leaves on the ground but cannot be found. We discussed about leaves' ageing and changing colours.
Some of the questions pose to the children for them to find out:
How does the fish scale feel like when the fish is swimming? How does the fish scale feel like when it is dead? Is it easier to feel the scale when the fish is swimming? How does the fish react when you try to touch it? Will the fish bite you?
First, the children peeped through a hole to guess the thing based on the shadow. Then they worked on their own experiments with the lighting to get shadows. Tested with bright area with lighting and dark area with lighting. So which condition let us see the shadow clearer - bright or dark?
